me first just say that all your stories were wonderful and we appreciate
all that were submitted.
This month's highlight story is from: Sheree
Northcutt
Recently my mother stopped by during a school day to find my 6 yr.
old daughter in her apron, in the kitchen, and covered with flour.
My mother, naturally asked my daughter why she wasn't doing school
work to which she proudly replied, 'I am Grandma, I am learning
to keep a home!' The only comment that my mother had was a pair
of raised eyebrows aimed right at me.
It never ceases to amaze our family that we actually enjoy being
with our children. I Don't really know why that is but its a pretty
common thought because lots of people feel that way. We are often
asked why we homeschool and if our children are really learning
what they need to learn. What do they really need to learn, I tend
to reply. What WAS my daughter learning that day? She was learning
math and science and home ec but most of all she was learning to
be a keeper of the home. She was learning that she has an important
role in our family and what her role will be when she marries and
has a family of her own.
That is really why we homeschool, I think. It is so that we can
teach them not just book skills but also life skills. It is so we
can give them a good, biblical foundation for their lives--the foundation
built on the rock will withstand the storm.
