Train up a child in the way he
should go, And even when he is old he will not depart from it.
-- Proverbs 22:6
Helping your children come to know the Lord Jesus is one of the
most important things that any of us are called to do. Happily,
most parents have a strong desire to help their kids spiritually,
but there is little agreement on how to proceed. The following guidelines
are designed to stimulate your thinking, your prayers and your actions.
First of all, this is something that you have to do for yourself.
Just as “farming out” academic learning to “professionals”
is often disastrous, relying on Sunday-school teachers and/or pastors
is not likely to bring the desired results. Although home schooling
parents are less likely to trust someone else to disciple their
children, the temptation to do so can be strong. The “buck
stops” with you if you desire that your children follow the
Lord. The good news is that you will not be alone in your efforts.
Pastors and Sunday school teachers can be helpful, but your resources
extend far beyond that kind of help. God put your children into
your care; The Most High knows what he is doing! If you feel inadequate
for the task, that is fine! You will be all the more likely to turn
to Him for help.
Crystal and I can testify to God’s faithfulness and provision
for guiding children. Our first child, Matthew, was not turning
out as we had hoped. (He was actually so bad by age three and a
half, I expected him to sprout horns and a pointy tail.) We could
not figure out what went wrong; after all, we read all the popular
books and magazines on parenting! Finally, we cried out to God for
help. Our answer came in short order. We were directed by a series
of “coincidences” to attend a Child-Training seminar
given by Michael Pearl. Fortunately, Mr. Pearl’s wisdom and
our desperation overcame our misconceptions and defensiveness. We
changed our attitudes and parenting; our children changed even more.
Being a parent actually became fun (Matthew, now almost 14, is as
fine a young man as I’ve encountered). The point of the story
is that God will help those who ask for it! I believe that this
is especially true in regard to raising our children; God wants
our children to come to Him even more than we do. The Pearls, incidentally,
are still in the business of blessing families: visit them at www.nogreaterjoy.org.
Mat 19:14 Jesus, however, said, "Let
the little children come to me, and stop keeping them away. For
the kingdom of heaven belongs to people like these."

It has been a long haul for Road to Zion. We have
tried many things and attempted to meet many needs. We have learned
a lot in the process and feel we have to make some more changes.
One of the things we learned is we can’t be everything to
everybody. Unless we decide to build a giant warehouse on our property
to store 4 billion books, we cannot even come close to carrying
the stock of Rainbow resource, or Rock Solid. But here is what we
can do.
We decided to stick to the things we are good at. We can give good
service and personal attention, so we need to set up our store that
allows us to continue to talk with and have time for our customers.
We are good with the Science and Math and even a few other little
areas. We have decided to add more Math curriculum and more Science
stuff. We are adding Robot kits, lab kits for Apologia and a few
other things. We are also a ministry. We have spoken to and ministered
to so many people through our web store that we know that God has
given it to us for a reason. This is why we try to keep our prices
and shipping low. We want you to be able to afford it. It is important
to us that you can afford it and it doesn’t set you back.
Homeschooling is the most central part of our lives right now and
we want to help you make yours better and more affordable.
This also means that we are letting the stock of certain items
run out. We will no longer carry Draw Right Now, History of US,
Prairie Primer, Pearson Language Arts, and some of our reading material.
It isn’t that we don’t like these items, it is just
too much to try to keep these items in stock and match Amazon pricing
too. We have pretty much decided that some of the items that Amazon
carries, we probably can’t carry. We have a ministry, they
have a conglomerate. We can’t match their selection and they
can’t match our service. We know that you need the lowest
price available, but we are not willing to skimp on service. We
care too much about our customers. So by discontinuing some of the
items that Amazon carries we will be able to maintain the lowest
prices on our Science and Math curricula, it should make us all
happy.
We are also changing our catalog. We are trying to make it smaller
because it is very expensive to print them, so we must try to cut
back there a bit. If we make it smaller it should help. We hope
to have this done soon.
We are changing our shipping policy to make it more obvious that
we have the lowest prices on Apologia and Saxon. Some other companies
advertise lower prices, then zap you with expensive shipping. We
have found that though we had free shipping, people still tried
to have us match pricing of companies with lower price and higher
shipping. It was too hard for us to explain our free shipping policy,
so we have decided to raise shipping to free over $75 and the shipping
is now $3.95. However the prices on our items have been lowered
on Saxon and Apologia. We will still match prices, and think you
will find we still have the lowest prices around.
We thank you for being our customers! We look forward to serving
you even better in the future.
God Bless

Dr Wile says: “Well, it has finally happened! After years
of searching
for an elementary science curriculum that is truly God honoring,
user friendly, and scientifically sound, we were introduced to two
books by Jeannie Fulbright. It’s no wonder that we want to
publish her books. As one of the parents who has already used Mrs.
Fulbright’s astronomy book says, "It reminds me of Dr.
Jay Wile's Apologia Science, only yours is on an elementary level
while his is written for high school age." We couldn’t
have said it better ourselves.
Mrs. Fulbright has written two books, one on astronomy and one
on Botany. She plans to develop more books, so we hope to be able
to publish even more work from this talented author.

Perhaps the most obvious objection to the whole idea that unguided
evolution has given rise to the diverse forms of life that we see
today is the problem of the origin of life. Evolution is thought
to proceed by differential or “Natural” selection among
a population of reproducing organisms. Clearly, without some type
of life (at minimum a self-sustaining unit capable of reproduction)
no evolution can happen. This leaves us with the problem of origins
where any type of “evolution” can’t be called
upon for help.
Once upon a time, even in Darwin’s day1, the idea of “spontaneous
generation” or life arising from non-life did not seem to
present much of a problem. Until recently, the incredible complexity
and organization of even the simplest microbe was not understood.
In fact few modern scientists would argue that any cell found in
nature could have come about by “accident”2. No, the
hopes of scientists looking for the origin of life rests on a hypothetical
“protocell”3 that would be much more simple.
What does a working protocell look like? It is hard to answer that
question, because no one has succeeded in making one! This failure
is not for the lack of trying. 4,5,6 Indeed, for all of the time,
money, equipment and expert man-hours devoted to the project, we
are not even close. As a top scientist in the field states: “The
principal hurdle remains the synthesis of efficient RNA replicases
and related enzymes entirely within an artificial cell.” Without
getting too technical, it is safe to say that an engineered solution
to a man-made cell is a long way off. Now, let’s be honest.
Can you think of one other device or item that is impossible for
mankind to construct, but that forms by itself? Indeed it is much
more plausible for a Pentium microprocessor to be formed in nature,
that for the simplest working protocell to pop into existence by
itself.
If the intricacy and obvious “design” of the most basic
unit of life, the cell, had been understood in the 19th century,
then any type of “Evolution” would have been slow to
become the scientific dogma that it is today. There is an old8 (and
yet persuasive) argument for design (and thereby a Designer) in
nature. If you find a watch on the beach, you know that it didn’t
form there by itself; it had to have a designer and builder. If
we now find a working cell, how can we rationalize that it came
to be by chance?
