By Tim Hubbell
A lot of people seem to think that we, as a society, can salvage
our public school system. Perhaps we can fix “our” schools
if we: recruit better teachers, spend more money, find the perfect
curriculum, make school year-round, make the students wear uniforms
or just spend even more money. Unfortunately, the bad things about
public schools go far beyond the fact that they do a poor job in
educating students.
At the risk of sounding like a kook, I need to speak the truth:
the public school system was not designed with your children’s
best interests in mind; some public schools harm children emotionally,
cognitively, morally and spiritually. Public schools are designed
to produce predictable, malleable workers and consumers instead
of unique, honorable individuals. Why should you take my word for
it? You shouldn’t; you should investigate it yourself. It
is well documented. Here are some interesting links to get you started:

The scary thing about all this is that a plan already exists for
limiting the alternatives to public school, namely unrestricted
private and home education. Obviously, no one could immediately
outlaw private schools or home schooling, but these alternatives
can be brought under much greater control by funding them through
vouchers. As soon as government money is used, an increasing level
of government control will follow. Here is an article that documents
some of the dangers of “free” government money.

Little
Britches from Ralph Moody
$11.95
Ralph Moody was eight years old in 1906 when his family moved from
New Hampshire to a Colorado ranch. Through his eyes we experience
the pleasures and perils of ranching there early in the twentieth
century. Auctions and roundups, family picnics, irrigation wars,
tornadoes and windstorms give authentic color to Little Britches.
So do adventures, wonderfully told, that equip Ralph to take his
father's place when it becomes necessary.

I Found this great website called How
Stuff Works.
http://www.howstuffworks.com/
There are tons of great things on here. I like
the link on how coffee works? Parents, there are some ads on the
website, (mortgage and AOL) so peruse if first alone before inviting
your children. Most seemed ok, but everyone’s ideas about
what is good is different, so I just wanted to warn you first.
GREAT WEBSITE!
